In 2013,  Luc Hossepied, Director of the “Plus petite galerie du monde (OU PRESQUE)”, discovers 31 empty frames in the Flemish Bailleul Museum. These frames represent the lost collection of the Museum, destroyed during World War I, when the town was bombed first by the German, then by the British army. Shown by Laurent Guillaut alongside the descriptions of the lost images written in 1879 by Edouard Swynghedauw, then curator of the Museum, they gave a crazy idea to Luc Hossepied : he’d invite contemporary artists to reinterpret the lost collection. The French Museum La Piscine de Roubaix is showing the collection of “Ghost paintings” on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I.
